According to a report by Daily Post, on Thursday May 7, 2026, Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that the 2027 presidential election is gradually becoming a contest between President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

‎According to him, the race for the presidency is now mainly centred on the two experienced politicians because of their national political influence and long involvement in governance.

‎He explained that both Tinubu and Atiku already have strong political structures across the country, making them the leading figures to watch as political activities continue to build ahead of 2027.

‎Showunmi, who previously served as spokesperson for Atiku during past presidential campaigns, stated that he believes the former vice president still has ideas and plans that many Nigerians are yet to hear about.

‎He noted that his close relationship with Atiku over the years gave him insight into the former vice president’s thinking and leadership approach, he suggested that Atiku still has solutions he could present to Nigerians if he eventually contests again.

‎The PDP chieftain spoke about the current state of the country, he said Nigeria has been going through different reforms and adjustments in recent years as leaders attempt to solve major national problems.

‎While discussing other possible contenders, Showunmi criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, he claimed Obi has not clearly spoken enough on major national issues, especially security and social stability.

‎“In terms of who can lead the country, It is between Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar and one will obviously beat the other. The 2027 presidential contest is shaping up mainly between Tinubu and Atiku. In the case of Peter Obi, I see absolutely zero. Let me repeat, I see absolutely nothing.,” Showunmi said….Read_More…
