Femi Falana, SAN, human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, in a video from 1:11 posted on TVC on Thursday, June 4, 2026, spoke about the use of technology in combating kidnapping and insecurity in Nigeria, urging the government to adopt more advanced methods in rescue operations.

Falana argued that drones could play a critical role in locating criminal hideouts and rescuing kidnapping victims. He stated that modern surveillance technology makes it possible to identify the precise locations of kidnappers and other criminal groups operating in remote areas.

According to him, “By the application of drones here, we can locate where those criminals are, the exact place, and I’ve advised the government. In October 2000, an American was kidnapped, a 27-year-old guy, Philip Walton, in Niger State. The criminals took him to a forest in Sokoto State. The Americans deployed a drone from Washington; they located the bush, sent a plane which landed in Niger Republic, and they drove to the exact point.”

He maintained that Nigeria should take advantage of its security cooperation with the United States and other partners by learning modern rescue and surveillance techniques. Falana argued that such training could strengthen the capacity of Nigerian security agencies in tackling insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping across the country.

The senior lawyer stressed that improved intelligence gathering and the effective deployment of technology could significantly enhance efforts to rescue victims and dismantle criminal networks operating in different parts of Nigeria….Read_More…
