In an interview from 5:07 on Channels TV, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi made a compelling case for judging presidential aspirants strictly on their track records, challenging Nigerians to set aside sentiment and evaluate each candidate based on what they had actually delivered in office.

Amaechi began by drawing a clear distinction between himself and former President Muhammadu Buhari, using his tenure as governor as his primary credential. “There is a difference between myself and President Buhari. I was governor of Rivers State,” he said, before throwing down a bold challenge. “Can we do a referendum?” he asked, inviting Nigerians to put all the candidates to the same test.

He noted that every aspirant in the presidential race shared one thing in common — prior government experience — and argued that this made a performance-based comparison both fair and necessary. “All the aspirants who are running for presidency including President Bola Tinubu have served government. Do a referendum,” he urged.

Amaechi then walked through the field of candidates one by one, calling on voters to scrutinize each person’s record with an open mind. “Look at Peter Obi, go to Anambra State and see what he has done. Go to Atiku, he was vice president, let us see what he has done. Let’s see what Tinubu did in Lagos and what he is doing in Nigeria now,” he said.

He saved himself for last, pointing to his dual record in both executive and ministerial roles. “Turn to Rotimi Amaechi in Rivers State, see what I have done in Rivers State and what I have done in Transportation and choose who will be the presidential candidate or the president,” he declared, expressing full confidence that a merit-based assessment would speak in his favor.
