Residents of Unguwar Dahiru, Unguwar Fadi and Dan Fili, communities on the outskirts of Funtua in Katsina State, say they now spend many nights awake because they fear fresh attacks by armed bandits.
In a video from 1:56 shared by Trust TV, according to residents, repeated attacks have forced many families to flee their homes in search of safety. Those who remain say they have formed night watches to protect their communities, as darkness has become a time of fear instead of rest.
One of the affected residents, Hassan Yahuza, said people no longer sleep peacefully because they do not know when bandits might strike. He explained that children, women, and elderly people now live in constant fear, with many families struggling to feel safe even inside their homes.
Another resident, Usman Dahiru, a retired civil servant, said the violence has deeply affected his family after his daughter was kidnapped by bandits. Despite his poor health and financial difficulties as a retiree, he said he had to raise and pay ₦2 million to secure her release. He described the experience as the most painful moment of his life and said he would not wish such an ordeal on any family.
Residents also said the attacks have claimed lives, disrupted farming and other means of livelihood, and left many people dealing with trauma and emotional distress.
