According to a report by The Times of Israel, Iran’s “most central site” for the production of sonar and other underwater detection systems was struck by the Israeli Air Force, the military said, in what it described as a significant blow to Tehran’s maritime defense capabilities.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, the targeted facility was located in Shiraz and belonged to Iran’s defense ministry. The site was described by the military as a key hub for the planning, research, development, and production of sonar systems.
The IDF said the systems produced at the facility operate using sound waves and are designed to detect submarines, vessels, divers, and underwater missiles. Such systems are considered critical components of naval defense and surveillance operations.
In a statement, the military said the strike caused substantial damage to Iran’s maritime detection and defense capabilities. It also said the attack had impacted the country’s ability to produce and maintain submarines, as well as other maritime electronic systems linked to underwater detection.
“The facility… was used for the planning, research, development, and production of sonar systems that operate using sound waves, and are used to detect submarines, vessels, divers, and underwater missiles,” the IDF said.
It added that the strike “significantly damaged the maritime detection and defense capabilities of the Iranian terror regime, as well as its ability to produce and maintain submarines and maritime electronic systems.”
In a separate operation, the IDF said it carried out another strike targeting a “central site” in Karaj. According to the military, the facility was used in the manufacture of naval cruise missiles and air defense systems.
The announcements form part of ongoing military activity involving Israeli operations against Iranian-linked infrastructure. The IDF has continued to release statements outlining its targeting of facilities it says are connected to Iran’s defense and weapons production capabilities. Read_More…
