Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a stark warning that no port in the Gulf, and the Sea of Oman will be safe following the United States’ imposition of a naval blockade on all traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports, signaling that the Iranian regime might retaliate broadly against regional shipping.
According to a report made by Anadolu English on Monday, 13 April, 2026, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB, declared that the security of ports in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman is either for everyone or for no one, suggesting that Iran considers the US blockade an act of war and may respond by targeting not only American vessels, but also commercial shipping and port facilities allied with Washington across the region.
They also characterized the US move as illegal, stating, “The restrictions imposed by the criminal United States on maritime movement in international waters are illegal and amount to piracy.”
The Iranian Armed Forces went further to consider the defense of the country’s legal rights a natural and lawful duty, and therefore the exercise of sovereignty ovr Iran’s territorial waters is a natural right of the Iranian nation, underscoring that Tehran has long maintained that the Strait of Hormuz falls within its territorial waters.
