According to a report by Fox News from 2:48, on Wednesday April 15, 2026, Retired Vice Admiral Kevin Donegan, former commander of the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, has provided critical context for the current U.S. naval blockade, arguing that the operation finally addresses a long-standing imbalance in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking on the strategic necessity of the mission, Admiral Donegan pointed out that for much of the ongoing regional conflict, the maritime environment has been skewed heavily in Tehran’s favor.

While global commerce faced threats and disruptions, Iranian vessels continued to operate with relative impunity until now.

According to Donegan, the blockade is a direct response to a period where the Strait of Hormuz was effectively “closed” to everyone except the Islamic Republic. He noted that while international energy flows were throttled by regional tensions, Iran’s own economic lifelines remained wide open.
