Former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former Rivers State Governor, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, has dismissed claims that Governor Siminalayi Fubara agreed not to seek a second term in office.
Speaking during an interview from 4:37 on Channels Television, Inko-Tariah said the governor has never publicly told Rivers people that he would not contest the 2027 governorship election.
According to him, although rumours about such an agreement have been circulating, Fubara has not confirmed them. He added that even if the governor eventually says he does not want to run again, many supporters and stakeholders in the state may still pressure him to contest.
Inko-Tariah also pointed out that some political stakeholders had already purchased expression of interest forms for Fubara, showing that he still enjoys support from several political figures.
He further reacted to claims that most Rivers National Assembly members defected to the APC because of the influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He said it would be unfair to make such a conclusion, noting that while Wike has loyal supporters in the National Assembly, Governor Fubara also has federal lawmakers who remain loyal to him and support his administration.
In his words, “The governor has not come out to tell Rivers people he’s never going to contest. And even the governor says he’s not going to contest, they will be mounting pressure on him to contest.”…Read_Moreā¦
