During an interview from 25:15 on Arise Television on Monday, May 11, 2026, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, spoke about the changing political attitudes among young Nigerians and the growing influence of social media in the country’s political space.

Kwankwaso made the remarks amid ongoing consultations within the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general election. The NDC presidential ticket has reportedly been zoned to the South, with increasing speculation that Kwankwaso could emerge as the vice-presidential candidate.

Speaking during the interview, Kwankwaso said many older political leaders have failed to fully understand the mindset of younger Nigerians, especially those active on social media platforms. He noted that younger voters now approach politics differently from previous generations and often make independent political choices.

According to him, “You have leaders; many of them don’t even realize what is happening on social media. We have leaders who hardly have any contact with the young men and women. People of your age, my age, or especially the age of Atiku are very few in this country comparatively with the younger people. The younger people have their own way of thinking, even our children.
