Former senator Shehu Sani has raised concern over the pattern of rising insecurity in Northern Nigeria whenever elections approach. He suggested that the increase in violent attacks during such periods appears too consistent to be ignored, hinting that some actors may be taking advantage of the situation for political gain.
In recent weeks, parts of the North have witnessed deadly incidents. In Borno State, insurgents launched attacks on military positions, leading to casualties among soldiers and civilians. In Kaduna and Zamfara states, armed bandits have continued to raid villages, kidnapping residents and burning homes. There have also been reports of communities being displaced as people flee for safety.
In a post via X, Sani believes that beyond the violence itself, the timing raises serious questions. According to him, statements and reactions that follow these attacks sometimes reveal hidden motives or suggest that certain groups may benefit politically from the chaos. He warned that using insecurity as a strategy to gain power is dangerous and harmful to the country.
He stressed that such actions, if true, not only threaten lives but also weaken trust in leadership and the democratic process.

In his words, “Each time an election comes closer, you will see an upsurge in daring terror attacks that were never experienced earlier in the North. That can’t be a coincidence.” Read_More…
