According to a report by Fox News from 5:41, on Monday April 27, 2026, Formerr Ambassador to the U.N. Mark Wallace, speaking on the matter, dismissed the recent diplomatic efforts by Iran’s Foreign Minister.
Wallace suggested that the ministry lacks genuine authority and is merely projecting power to appear as a legitimate state actor on the world stage.
“The foreign ministry has never had any power in Iran over the many years we have been seeing these stalled negotiations back and forth; the foreign ministry has been traveling around the world acting as if they are a real power; look, it makes sense if they went into Pakistan, Oman and now Russia, but Russia has been one of their key allies,” Wallace noted.
Wallace argued that the real power in Iran lies with an oligarchy within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which he claims is ideologically opposed to peace.
The Foreign Minister’s visit to Russia has further highlighted the strengthening alliance between Tehran and Moscow.
Wallace emphasized the significance of this relationship, pointing to Iran’s military support for Russia’s activities in Ukraine.
