In a recent interview from 12:30 on Symfoni TV, former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, spoke on ideological differences in Nigerian party politics and his views on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the interview, Nwosu stated, “They said, ‘All Progressives,’ but I said that ‘Progressive’ is ‘problematic.’” He made the remark while discussing what he described as inconsistencies in political ideology and party labeling within Nigeria’s democratic space.
Nwosu explained that political parties in Nigeria often adopt names that do not necessarily reflect their operational values or governance style. According to him, the use of the term “progressive” in political branding does not always translate into policies that genuinely advance national development or democratic ideals.
He further argued that the challenge in Nigeria’s political system is not just about party names but about the implementation of policies and the commitment of political actors to genuine reform. He noted that ideological alignment is often secondary to power struggles and political interests.
The former ADC chairman also stated that the opposition’s role is to critically assess the ruling party’s performance and hold it accountable where necessary. He maintained that constructive criticism is essential for strengthening democratic governance and improving public trust in political institutions.
