In a recent interview from 24:47 on Symfoni TV, former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Ralph Nwosu, spoke about the role the ADC played during the 2023 presidential election and the party’s support for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
During the interview, Nwosu stated, “We spent our money endorsing Peter Obi and LP two weeks before the 2023 election.” He made the remark while defending the ADC’s history of coalition-building and political cooperation with opposition figures across the country.
Nwosu explained that the ADC made the decision to publicly support Obi and the Labour Party because party leaders believed the country needed a united opposition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress during the election period.
According to him, the endorsement was not merely symbolic, as the party committed financial resources and mobilized its political structure in support of the Labour Party campaign. He noted that despite limited resources, ADC leaders believed it was necessary to support what they considered a broader national movement.
The former ADC chairman further stated that the party had consistently demonstrated commitment to democratic cooperation by working with different political actors over the years. He argued that the ADC’s willingness to sacrifice its own political interests showed that the party was focused more on national development than personal ambition.
