According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the Executive Director of Development Specs Academy, Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, has described Peter Obi’s move from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, as a step taken to save his political future.

He said the move reflects the pressure Obi is facing in the country’s political space.

Ikechukwu made the statement on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he spoke on the recent political shift involving Obi.

He linked the move to what he called the reality of Obi’s current position in politics and the choices before him.

According to him, the development should be seen as more than a simple party switch, he said Obi’s decision came at a time when political circumstances had changed around him, leaving him with limited room to remain in his former alignment.

He also connected Obi’s move with that of former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, describing both moves as part of what he called strategic porting.

The comment placed both politicians in the same category of political adjustment based on changing conditions.

Ikechukwu’s remarks focused on the idea that politicians often move when they believe their current base can no longer provide the support they need.

In his view, Obi’s defection was driven by survival in the political environment rather than a routine party transition.

The comment was made in the course of a discussion on the direction of political realignment and the movement of key figures across party lines.

He presented the defection as a response to pressure, using a comparison that framed Obi’s action as urgent and necessary.
