In a recent video from from 8:20 shared on News Central TV, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, public affairs analyst Jide Ojo weighed in on the growing crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the party’s internal divisions and leadership disputes have significantly weakened its prospects ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during the interview, Ojo stated, “Even if Peter Obi were in the ADC today, Atiku would still pick up the ticket.” He made the remark while assessing the outcome of the party’s presidential primary and the political calculations that influenced recent defections and realignments within the opposition camp.

According to Ojo, the ADC was initially viewed as a platform capable of uniting opposition forces and presenting a formidable challenge to the ruling party in the next general election. However, he argued that the coalition’s momentum began to fade as legal disputes, factional struggles, and disagreements over leadership continued to plague the party. He noted that the departure of key political figures further reduced the party’s attractiveness as a broad-based opposition platform.

He suggested that such concerns may have contributed to decisions by some opposition figures to seek alternative political platforms.

Ojo also expressed concern over the increasing fragmentation of opposition parties in Nigeria. He argued that divisions within major opposition groups could make it more difficult for them to present a united front against the ruling party in 2027. According to him, multiple presidential candidates emerging from different opposition platforms could split votes and weaken their overall electoral strength.

He further criticized the conduct of direct primaries through the Option A4 system, maintaining that the process remains vulnerable to controversies and disputes. Ojo called for electoral reforms that would strengthen transparency and improve confidence in party nomination processes.
