Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has warned against tribal politics and politicians who dump the parties that brought them to power after elections.

Speaking through former Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Peter Ameh, at a one-day summit organised by the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya Movements in Abuja, Obi said a true Nigerian president must treat all tribes equally.

According to a report by the NIGERIAN TRIBUNE published on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Obi said any leader who only trusts people from his tribe cannot truly serve as president of Nigeria.

He also said Nigeria needs leaders who will put the interest of the people first instead of pursuing personal gain and greed. He described post-election defections by politicians as a betrayal of public trust and democratic values.
