Ifeanyi Uzokwe, a former lawmaker and current ADC member, has hinted that Peter Obi would run for president again, but only if Atiku Abubakar stands down. This has further exacerbated the party’s internal conflict.
According to The SUN’s reporting, Uzokwe claimed that his group’s decision to leave the ADC alliance was triggered by worries over Atiku’s perceived overbearing influence within the party. He said the ex-VP had made himself the unstoppable force in the coalition, making it impossible for anyone else to do their job.
Uzokwe elaborated by saying that some party members were so frustrated with Atiku’s apparent domination that they demanded Obi resign so the primary could be held in a more transparent and competitive manner. In an effort to maintain a level playing field inside the party, he indicated that prominent people like Rotimi Amaechi and other contenders were being seriously evaluated.
Discussing the coalition’s internal strife, Uzokwe stated, “We went to him and said, can you step down and let Atiku, Rotimi Amaechi and others go into primaries.”.
He insisted that the party’s political dynamics would change drastically if Atiku withdrew, which may allow Obi to return and take part in the primaries again.
“Peter Obi will return for the primaries if Atiku steps down,” he declared.
