Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has accused a man identified as Solar of leading an attack on him and his supporters at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Speaking during an interview from 1:57 with Channels Television, Sowore recounted that the incident happened after he had attended a radio interview. He said he and his team stopped at a restaurant to eat because they were tired and hungry.
According to him, they were about to have their meal when gunshots rang out, followed by the arrival of armed men carrying guns and machetes. He alleged that the attackers began destroying items at the restaurant before turning on him and his supporters.
Sowore identified the man he accused of leading the assault as Solar, claiming that he disarmed the police officer assigned to provide him with protection. He added that two other police officers who accompanied them were left untouched after the attackers recognised them as personnel from the Police Mobile Force (PMF).
The AAC chieftain said he managed to flee but alleged that several members of his team were beaten and attacked with machetes. He also disclosed that he sustained injuries to his arm and left leg while escaping.
Recounting how the incident unfolded, Sowore said, “The guy who led the attack is very well known, his name is Solar. He disarmed police officer who was provided for me for police protection. But we had two other policemen and when they saw them that those ones came from the PMF, they said ‘Oh, these are government people don’t touch them’. So I managed to escape from the scene but they macheted and brutalized all our people and I got injured leaving the scene. I was injured in my arm and left leg”
