Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo Asari, the traditional ruler of Torusarama-Piri in Elem Kalabari and a former militant leader, has explained why he remains loyal to people who supported him during some of the most difficult periods of his life, including President Bola Tinubu, Uche Okoro, Uche Onyekocha and Kingsley Chinda.

Dokubo made the remarks during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page from 46:57 on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, recalling experiences that included gunfire, detention, trial, solitary confinement and what he described as being buried alive.

He credited divine intervention and the assistance of those who stood by him for helping him survive those ordeals, specifically mentioning Uche Okoro and Kingsley Chinda.

Recounting what he went through, Dokubo said, “I survive bullet were fired at me. I was detained, I was tried, I was put in solitary confinement. I was buried alive and I came out because people like Uche Okoro, Kingsley Chinda stand by me,” he said.

The traditional ruler questioned how he could turn against people who had supported him during his most difficult moments and later pretend that they had done nothing for him. He insisted that he would not repay their kindness with ingratitude.

Explaining why he would not deny the help he received, Dokubo stated, “And I returned and I will now look at my benefactor and said, you didn’t do anything for me. I am not as ungrateful as you people think,” he stated.

He also singled out Tinubu, saying the president had stood by him throughout his period of tribulation. Dokubo argued that this personal history made it difficult for him to campaign against the president, even as he acknowledged that others could express their own views about Tinubu.

Speaking about his position, Dokubo said, “All today, I will now come and stand to campaign against Tinubu. I will campaign against Tinubu, a man who stood by me throughout my period of tribulation.”

He concluded by distinguishing his personal loyalty from other people’s right to criticise the president, insisting that he could not repay the kindness shown to him with wrongdoing.

Emphasising his gratitude to those who supported him, Dokubo added, “Whatever you want to say about Tinubu, it is not personal. You can say it. But me, I cannot be evil. I cannot use evil to pay the good that people like Tinubu, Uche Okoro, Uche Onyekocha and Kingsley Chinda did for me,” he added.
