Political analyst and activist Henry Shield has opened up on his disappointment over Peter Obi’s decision to join the New Nigeria Development Party (NDC), pointing to the political relationship between Obi and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson as a source of concern.
Shield, who spoke on Symfoni TV From 4:47 on Sunday, September 27, said the move could spark disagreements within the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He observed that Obi’s entry had significantly boosted the party’s visibility, making cooperation among its major figures vital to its political organisation.
The analyst urged Obi’s support groups to concentrate on promoting his political ambition, while encouraging party leaders to resolve disagreements through internal channels rather than public exchanges.
He maintained that the opposition would need greater coordination if it wanted to present a credible challenge in 2027.
Shield added that the relationship between Obi and Dickson would remain an important issue for the party as preparations for the election intensify.
Reflecting on his reaction to Obi’s decision, Shield said, “I was heartbroken when I heard that Peter Obi had joined his party.”
