During an interview on News Central TV on Monday, July 27, 2026, political analyst Kingsley Ndibe said he once questioned the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, over his repeated pledge to serve only one term if elected president.
Speaking in an interview on News Central TV on Monday, July 27, 2026, Ndibe argued that Obi’s position should be viewed as a sacrifice made in the interest of national unity and fairness rather than as a political weakness. He maintained that the principle of power rotation remains important to preserving Nigeria’s stability and ensuring that every region has a sense of belonging.
According to him, “If there is one person that has actually brought Ndi Igbo to national politics in terms of being respected, it is Peter Obi. I’m talking about after the war. And realistically, I’ve approached him. I spoke with him one on one. Why are you telling everybody that you’re going to do one term? He looked me in the eyes and told me that. You see, you can’t be clamoring for equity; you can’t be telling Nigerians that you want Igbos to be treated fairly. And at the same time, you end up robbing the other people.”
