According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, June 6, 2026, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, reportedly escaped a mob attack on Friday at the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos State after a confrontation involving some youths at the market.
The incident drew attention after details emerged of how the political figure narrowly avoided being assaulted during his visit to the commercial hub known for automobile spare parts trading.
Igbokwe later narrated the incident in a video he shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, where he addressed claims circulating online that he had been beaten during the confrontation.
In the video, he provided his own account of what transpired at the market and clarified that he was not physically assaulted as had been alleged in some social media reports.
According to the APC chieftain, he had visited Ladipo Market to purchase vehicle spare parts needed to fix his car when he was identified by some youths within the area.
He stated that after being recognised, the youths allegedly became agitated and mobilised others in what appeared to be an attempt to confront or attack him.
The situation, he said, escalated quickly within the busy commercial environment.
Igbokwe further explained that as the group of youths moved closer to his vehicle, he made the decision to seek immediate safety by taking cover inside a friend’s shop located within the market.
He noted that the intervention of the leadership of the market played a key role in preventing the situation from escalating further, as they stepped in to calm tensions and ensure his safety while the confrontation unfolded.
He stated that the prompt action of market leaders helped to de-escalate the situation and allowed him to leave the area without sustaining any physical harm.
The APC chieftain also addressed misinformation circulating online regarding the incident, insisting that he was not beaten as widely reported in some quarters.
He used the opportunity to dismiss claims that he had been physically attacked during the encounter.
He said, “I came to Facebook this morning and saw a post that Joe Igbokwe was beaten. I was not beaten. This is me. There are things you cannot do here, you can go to the Southeast and be doing all the rubbish you have been doing there but not in Lagos.”
