Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, has stated that Hisbah officers in northern Nigeria do not carry guns.
In an interview from 47:30 with News Central TV, Kwankwaso stated that Hisbah operates as an Islamic religious police. He said that it was established to enforce Sharia law in about 12 northern states.
Kwankwaso added that Sharia law is meant for Muslims alone and has nothing to do with Christians. He stated that Hisbah operate only in matters relating to Muslims, not Christians.
In Kwankwaso’s words: “The Hisbah that we have in northern Nigeria have no guns. No Hisbah man anywhere has guns but I know the Hisbah came as a result of Sharia which about 12 states inaugurated in northern Nigeria. But those ones have to do with Muslims only, they have nothing to do with Christians. Sharia is for the Muslims”
