A video shared on the official X account of News Central TV on Friday, July 24, 2026, captured the moment the Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, spoke about the recent wave of defections by governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso made the remarks while reacting to the growing number of governors who have left their political parties to join the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the video, the former Kano State governor explained why he believes many governors have decided to align themselves with the ruling party. According to him, a number of them are acting on the assumption that being in the APC would guarantee electoral victory.
Speaking during the interview, Kwankwaso said, “Almost all governors now have the opinion that they should join the ruling party. They believe that the presidency will write the results for them.”
He continued, “They will be disappointed.”
Kwankwaso further argued that electoral success should be determined by the will of the people rather than by political alignment with those in power.
He maintained that politicians should focus on winning the confidence of voters through good governance, accountability and effective leadership instead of relying on perceived advantages associated with the ruling party.
