Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has said that the late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, the elder brother of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, played a significant role in Nigeria’s political history, describing him as the political godfather of President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking during an interview from 5:50 on Creative Lord TV on Tuesday, 14 July, 2026, Sani reflected on the influence of the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, noting that many Nigerians know the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua but are less familiar with the political legacy of his elder brother. He argued that the elder Yar’Adua’s contributions to Nigeria’s political development deserve greater recognition.
Sani said, “People don’t know the elder brother of Yar’Adua. But President Yar’Adua has an elder brother who was the godfather of Tinubu and godfather of Atiku.”
The former lawmaker said the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua was one of the country’s most influential political figures, whose mentorship and political network shaped the careers of several prominent leaders.
