According to a report by Sahara Reporters on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Ayodele Ajayi, a community leader of Eda-Oniyo Community in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Ekiti, has revealed during a protest that members of their community have been in the captivity of kidnappers for 36 days. He said they were able to raise N10.5 million as a community, but the kidnappers are demanding more money.
He further said that the total number of people kidnapped by the bandits is 16, and most of them are women, while two are young boys. He said they are begging the government at all levels to come to their aid and secure the release of their community members.
Ayodele Ajayi said, “Our people have been in captivity for 36 days. We contributed what we could as a community and paid ₦10.5million, but the kidnappers refused to release them. Instead, they are demanding more money.”
It was reported that suspected bandits stormed a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) during a worship service in the community. The pastor of the church was killed, and 16 members of the church were kidnapped.
