Apostle Johnson Suleman, senior pastor and founder of Omega Fire Ministries International, recently recounted anecdotes about his struggles as a young Christian growing up in a Muslim household. He spoke to a gathering of youths and stressed the need of having courage to stand firm for what one believes in. In his early years as a Christian, Suleman studied the Bible cover to cover, under the cover of darkness, with the use of a flashlight.
Unaware of his son’s conversion, his father would frequently double-check that the lights were out before believing that everyone was asleep. But one night his dad barged into his room, grabbed the Bible from him, and snatched the blanket off. Interestingly, his dad took a while to respond. Nevertheless, he was driven to the mosque the following morning against his will by his family, who demanded that he attend prayers. That he must leave was their message to him.
Refusing to budge, Suleman fearlessly voiced his opposition, declaring, “I refuse to go!” My faith is in Christ! My faith is in Christ! It’s true! I’m a Christian! “Just go along with it—perform the actions and leave,” a young man who saw the scene said in an attempt to reason with him. Your heart is seen by God. However, he maintained his stance unwavering. He stayed upright at the mosque during prayer, even while everyone else bowed. Even though my dad was yanking on my pants, I would not bend over. I just shook my head and prayed.
People surrounding him murmured in response to his defiance. After a brutal beating upon his return home, his family finally stopped pressuring him to attend mosque services. In his closing remarks, Suleman emphasized the importance of remaining steadfast in one’s beliefs, especially in the face of opposition that is willing to give in.
