A Senator representing Ekiti South and the Senate Spokesperson, Senator Yeni Adaramodu has alleged that the National Assembly’s budget cannot be sacrificed to address issues within the executive branch. Specifically, he addressed the concerns regarding the allowances and salaries of SANU and NASU members, which are not included in the National Assembly’s budget.

He argued that the responsibility for these payments does not lie with the National Assembly, and it would be inappropriate to expect legislators to use their budget to cover these expenses. He explained that the executive branch’s budget includes allocations for the Ministry of Education, the judiciary’s budget covers the courts and related agencies, and the National Assembly’s budget is designated for legislative activities.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 11:01, ”We have three different arms of government that have their separate budget. The budget of the executive is where the issue of ministry of education takes their own. The Judiciary is where the Court and other agencies takes their own from the budget. Then that of the National Assembly is for the legislation.

And so our budgets are not interwoven. What is due to us as Senators cannot be used as a sacrifice to the executive. The issue at hand is about the allowances and salaries or SANU and NASU members which is not embeded in the budget of the National Assembly. So if they are asking for what belongs to them, I don’t think it is the National Assembly that will now use their own emonument to satisfy that. Let’s not mix all these things together.”…….Seë _ Morë
