The National Welfare Officer of IPMAN, John Kekeocha has alleged that there is no need to celebrate the Dangote refinery if the imported petroleum product is cheaper in price as compared to the Dangote rolled out PMS product. He argued that the product from Dangote Refinery cannot be more expensive than the one imported by NNPC due to the advantage of local supply logistics.

He identified that if the price of PMS is to come down, the government needs to intervene to ensure that the product is sold at a cheaper rate to Nigerians. He noted that the current price of N950 suggests that the government has not subsidized the price, and urged the government to take action to reduce the price of the product.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 3:54, ”The product we are going to get from Dangote cannot be costlier than the one imported by the NNPC. Because we have that advantage of supply logistics. If the petrol we are importing from Abroad is cheaper, then why are we celebrating Dangote refinery? Because in view of the logistics before us about the importation and Dangote having started local production, it is reasonably believed that Dangote product should be very cheap.

Before now the imported product in Nigeria has been placed around 400 to 619 and we understand that the government has been doing some undercover process to ensure that these products come at this rate. And which means basically government has been getting it higher than what it gives to Nigerians. But with the N950 as stated here, it means that the government has not subsidized the price. So if the price is going to go down, the government need to intervene to ensure that the product is sold at a cheaper rate to Nigerians.”
