In a recent interview shared by Trust TV, legal practitioner Sam Kargo weighed in on the legal controversy surrounding allegations of wiretapping linked to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Speaking during the interview from 2:03, Kargo addressed the growing public debate over comments reportedly made by El-Rufai during a live television appearance, where issues of intercepted communications were discussed. He clarified that while such statements may generate public attention, they do not automatically amount to admissible evidence in a court of law.

“What he said on TV is never really evidence for which he could be charged; he could be a prompter,” Kargo stated.

The legal practitioner explained that in criminal proceedings, including cases involving alleged surveillance or wiretapping, the burden of proof rests entirely on the prosecution. He noted that investigators must present credible, independently obtained evidence to support any charge, rather than relying on media statements or public commentary.
