The new Worldwide Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Barry Avotu, has spoken on the origins of the movement, stating that it emerged after the EndSARS protests and before the adoption of Peter Obi as its political figurehead.
Avotu made the remarks during an interview on News Central TV on Thursday, May 7, 2026, while discussing the formation and evolution of the movement. Speaking during the interview, he said, “We started the Obidient Movement after the EndSars and after the NYDP that was not registered by INEC, a political party that sprang up from the EndSars.”
He added, “From there, we started the Obidient Movement before we adopted Peter Obi, and before Peter Obi hijacked the movement. And decided to bring leadership.”
Avotu further stated, “Definitely, before it became organic, definitely there must be pen and paper on ground.” Addressing the creation of the movement’s identity, he said, “How did the logo come about? How did the name Obidient come about?”
He continued, “No, that’s not the reason. We had the Obidient Movement before we adopted Aube.” He added, “Yes, and we looked at it, look at the B, look at the E, take it out and put an I to suit his acronym.” Avotu also said, “Just like the way we worked on Yusuf and Yusful. We did that change ourselves.”
According to him, “I and one or two other people before it became viral, before everybody on social media started using it.” He further stated, “And definitely, yes, it’s organic, but it started from the decision of I, myself, and some other people in the presence of Professor Pat Utomi told me who called us, who invited us.”…Read_More…
