Salima Shuaibu has shared the heartbreaking memory of the last time she saw her 25-year-old son, Abubakar Ibrahim, before he drowned alongside his friend in Hayin Malam Bello Community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a video from 1:57 shared by Trust TV, according to residents, the two young men were returning home when they tried to cross a river. Community members tried to rescue them, but the water was too strong, and both men drowned.
Speaking about her son’s final moments, Salima said she last saw Abubakar around 3 p.m. before leaving home to attend a school graduation ceremony. She explained that her son and his friend also left home around that time, and that was the last time she saw him alive.
Despite her grief, Salima said the family was thankful to God in every situation and prayed that Allah would grant the souls of the two victims eternal rest.
Abubakar’s father, Ibrahim Mohammad, described the tragedy as the most painful experience of his life. He said the family was praying for the recovery of his son’s body so he could be buried according to Islamic rites.
