Former Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Austin Tam-George, has dismissed claims that Governor Siminalayi Fubara signed an agreement to stop him from seeking a second term in office.
Speaking during an interview from 11:47 on Arise News, Tam-George said reports about such an agreement were false and only existed as rumours. He stated that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had repeatedly mentioned the alleged agreement, but insisted that no such arrangement was ever made.
According to him, even if any private political understanding existed, it could not override the Nigerian Constitution. He explained that the law gives every elected governor the right to seek a second term if they choose to do so.
Tam-George added that if Fubara decides to contest again and eventually appears on the ballot, the final decision would rest with the people through the democratic process.
