In an interview with The Guardian on Monday, October 20, 2025, Ohanaeze Ndigbo chieftain and former President-General of Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, has criticized South-East governors for what he described as political fear and lack of courage in leadership.
He said most of them are anxious and appear more focused on their political survival than on serving the people.
Uwazurike noted that many governors in the region now act as if total loyalty to President Bola Tinubu is the only way to remain in power.
He said their support for the President is not based on genuine admiration but on fear of losing political relevance.
According to him, this attitude has weakened the region’s political voice and reduced public confidence in leadership.
He explained that the situation varies across states but shares the same pattern of confusion and propaganda. In Imo State, he said, political competition has created deep divisions and constant tension.
In Anambra, propaganda and political rivalry have become common, affecting trust among the people.
Uwazurike further observed that the Enugu State government seems unsure of its direction, while Ebonyi faces similar problems.
He described the political atmosphere in the South-East as tense, with many citizens afraid to speak openly for fear of intimidation.
He stated that no amount of political manipulation or fear can suppress the collective will of the people forever.
Uwazurike concluded that the South-East must stay alert and ready to take its rightful place when the opportunity to reshape its destiny arrives.
“Many South-East governors have become anxious, sending signals that anything other than Tinubu is unacceptable to them. They are not doing this because they love Tinubu; they are doing it to survive,” he said. See, More, Here>>>
