Ahead of the local government elections in Rivers State on October 5th, 2024, Governor Sim Fubara announced that there will be a complete restriction on movement from midnight on October 4th until 5 pm on October 5th.

In a live coverage by Channels TV from 8:06, Fubara said during this period, no vehicles or people will be allowed to move into, out of, or within Rivers State. He said this restriction is meant to ensure a smooth and secure election process. He also said the only exceptions will be for individuals and vehicles involved in election-related duties or other essential services.

In Fubara’s words: “I place a total restrictions on vehicle and human movement into, within and outside Rivers State and the local government areas from midnight the Friday 4th October, 2024 to 5pm on Saturday 5th of October 2024. Except for persons and vehicles who are on election and other essential duties, the police and other security agencies have clear directives from the state security council to arrest prosecute any person or group who attempt to violate the restrictions on human and vehicular movement”
