In a recent a recent video from 0:40 shared on Arise TV, member of the Rivers State Elders Forum, Asukewe Ikoawaji, spoke on the political atmosphere in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, focusing on leadership readiness, governance challenges, and the future of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

During the interview, Ikoawaji stated, “We see Siminalayi Fubara as someone who is not prepared to be a governor.” He made the remark while responding to questions about the performance of the incumbent governor and the ongoing debate over whether he should seek a second term in office.

He explained that the political situation in Rivers State has exposed deeper structural issues in governance, arguing that leadership requires full preparedness, independence, and the ability to withstand political pressure. According to him, the challenges experienced in the state reflect concerns about whether the governor has been fully in control of the system.

He further stated that the Rivers State Elders Forum is more concerned about stabilizing the political environment and ensuring that future leadership reflects competence, accountability, and the true will of the people.

The elder statesman also noted that political discussions ahead of 2027 are still evolving, with many aspirants and stakeholders yet to openly declare their intentions, as the state continues to recover from recent political tensions.
