In a recent interview from 12:29 on Silverbird N24, Rivers Emancipation Movement (REM) National President Zoe Tamunotonye reflected on the political tensions in Rivers State while discussing the relationship between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governor, now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

During the interview, Tamunotonye stated, “Fubara went to Abuja and held a meeting with Wike; he came back and said, ‘I’m with my oga.’” He made the remark while describing the uncertainty surrounding the governor’s political decisions and reconciliation efforts.

He explained that repeated meetings and settlements between the governor and Wike have created confusion among supporters, many of whom initially believed the governor was charting an independent political direction in Rivers State.

According to Tamunotonye, the situation reflects the complex nature of political alliances in Nigeria, where personal relationships and negotiations often shape political outcomes more than institutional processes and public expectations.

He further argued that the governor’s supporters have struggled to maintain a consistent position because of changing political signals and ongoing reconciliation attempts between both camps.

Tamunotonye noted that the crisis in Rivers State has gradually shifted from ordinary political disagreement to a broader contest for influence and control within the state’s political structure, especially following the governor’s movement to the All Progressives Congress.
