During an interview from 11:11 on Channels Television on Friday, July 10, 2026, Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized the Tinubu administration’s economic and security record, pointing to the increase in petrol prices, the depreciation of the naira, and the spread of insecurity across the country.

Okonkwo argued that the cost of living has risen sharply since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office. He claimed that both the pump price of petrol and the exchange rate of the naira against the US dollar have climbed to around ₦1,400, while also expressing concern over what he described as worsening insecurity.

According to him, “When Tinubu came in, Nigerians were paying ₦195 per liter. Today, it’s ₦1,400 and fluctuates between ₦1,300. Naira was valued at ₦500 to a dollar; today it is ₦1,400 or thereabout. The insecurity is now throughout the whole nation. The southwest has been relatively insulated from major insecurity problems.
