Liborous Oshoma, a lawyer, has spoken about the strained relationships between former governors and their successors, as well as the need for true mentorship.
In a video shared by TVC from 4:04, Oshoma said that some people who served under former Governor Oshiomhole revealed that when Godwin Obaseki was Oshiomhole’s economic adviser, Obaseki showed excessive deference. He explained that if Oshiomhole was sitting, Obaseki would remain standing. Oshoma argued that this kind of behavior is not real mentorship but rather an act of “eye service”
Oshoma further disclosed that despite Obaseki’s earlier loyalty, his relationship with Oshiomhole has deteriorated, and they are no longer on speaking terms. He said that true mentorship goes beyond superficial respect and involves guidance and a healthy working relationship
In Oshoma’s words: “When Governor Obaseki was economic adviser to Oshiomhole, if you see him and Oshiomhole, if Oshiomhole is sitting he won’t sit. That is not mentorship, that is eye service. Today Obaseki is the governor and they are not in talking terms. We all know what mentorship is about”
