Liborous Oshoma, a lawyer, has expressed concern about how both former Governor Nyesom Wike and current Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State have disregarded court orders.

In a video shared by TVC from 14:40, Oshoma said when Wike became governor in 2015, a court ordered him not to sack local government chairmen who had been elected. He said despite the order, Wike sacked the chairmen. Oshoma also said in 2020, Wike ignored another court directive that instructed him to reinstate workers from Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic who had been dismissed.

Speaking further, Oshoma stated that Governor Fubara has also disobeyed court orders. He emphasized the importance of respecting the rule of law and judicial decisions, stating that no governor should place themselves above the courts.

In Oshoma’s words: “When Wike became governor the court gave an order restraining him from sacking the duly elected local government chairmen, he violated that court order and went ahead to sack them. In 2020, court gave an order asking him to reinstate sacked Ken Saro-Wiwa polytechnic workers but he violated that court order. Today, it is Fubara. I hear Fubara saying that the Martins Amaewhule members are members of the House of Assembly at his behest, it is because he recognized them. For me, that is laughable in a constitutional democracy for a governor to say duly elected members are in existence at his behest”.
