According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Friday, May 29, 2026, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, said stronger regional cooperation is necessary in the fight against terrorism and cross-border crimes affecting the country.

Speaking during an interview from 6:18  on the state of national security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Musa explained that terrorist groups often take advantage of porous borders to escape military pressure and continue their operations from neighboring countries.

“What the terrorists actually do is that when you attack them more, they move to another country,” Musa said while discussing the security challenges facing Nigeria and other West African nations.

The Defence Minister stated that Nigeria shares long borders with countries such as Niger, Cameroon, Chad, and the Benin Republic, making border management a major security concern. According to him, security agencies are working with neighboring countries through the Multinational Joint Task Force to prevent terrorists from finding safe havens across borders.

Musa also revealed that authorities are increasing surveillance and strengthening security operations around border communities to stop armed groups from infiltrating Nigeria.
