According to a report by The Times Of Israel on July 14, 2026, Iran carried out the execution of two men after they were convicted of belonging to an Islamic State-linked militant cell and engaging in armed activities against the Islamic Republic, according to the Iranian judiciary’s news outlet, Mizan.
The report identified the men as Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani, stating that both had received death sentences following legal proceedings in Iran. Their convictions were later reviewed and upheld by the country’s Supreme Court, clearing the way for the executions to be carried out.
Mizan reported that the pair were members of a group accused of maintaining ties with the Islamic State extremist organization. Iranian authorities alleged that the cell was involved in planning armed operations targeting the country, describing the activities as a serious threat to national security.
According to the judiciary outlet, the group had been operating from the Bamo heights, an area located along the Iran-Iraq border. Officials claimed the cell used the mountainous region as a base while preparing attacks intended to be carried out inside Iranian territory.
The report said security agencies uncovered the alleged plot before the planned attacks could be executed. Iranian authorities have repeatedly said they monitor militant activity along the country’s western border, where they accuse armed groups of attempting to infiltrate from neighboring areas.
Mizan says Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani were sentenced to death after their convictions were upheld by the Supreme Court, adding that the cell had planned attacks in Iran after operating from the Bamo heights along the Iran-Iraq border.
The executions come as Iranian authorities continue to pursue individuals accused of terrorism-related offenses, particularly those allegedly linked to the Islamic State and other armed extremist organizations operating near the country’s border regions….See More
