An aide to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has criticised the decision of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, to reportedly defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC, describing the move as a major political miscalculation.

The governor’s aide, Ossai Ovie Success, made the remarks in a lengthy post shared on his X handle on Wednesday following reports of Omo-Agege’s defection.

According to him, the former APC governorship candidate became uncomfortable after Governor Oborevwori joined the APC, claiming the governor’s entry into the party changed the political dynamics in Delta State.

“He became scared because of the value and impact Oborevwori brought to the party,” Ossai stated.

The aide alleged that Omo-Agege realised he no longer had a clear path to the governorship and instead settled for the Delta Central senatorial ambition.

“He knew he had no path to the governorship, which is why he settled for Delta Central Senate,” he claimed.

Ossai further accused the former Deputy Senate President of distancing himself from party activities after the governor joined the APC.

“He boycotted the APC congress and primaries, disrespected the governor, and hasn’t attended APC meetings since the governor joined the party,” he alleged.

According to him, Omo-Agege allegedly attempted to use political connections in Abuja to overturn the outcome of the party primaries after losing.

“When he lost the primaries, he moved to Abuja working on his connections to turn the result but unfortunately, his connections failed and that is why he is moving to NDC,” he said.

The governor’s aide maintained that the defection would not pose any threat to the APC in Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections.
