According to report by DAILY POST on Friday May 8 2026, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic cleric, has stated that many kidnappers and armed criminal groups in Nigeria copied the methods of a well-known convicted kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans.
Recall that soldiers in Plateau state recently uncovered illegal sites allegedly used for manufacturing weapons. The weapons were said to be produced for criminal activities and attacks within the region.
Speaking on the development, Gumi explained that Evans’ case set a pattern that others later followed. He said Evans, who was arrested in 2017, gained notoriety for kidnapping wealthy individuals in Lagos and demanding huge ransom payments.
According to him, Evans operated in a highly organized way, which made his activities stand out at the time and may have influenced other criminal groups to adopt similar tactics.
