In a video posted on Symfoni TV from 5:43, the National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu discussed a legal provision and its interpretation by the courts.

He argued that the courts should interpret the law based on its clear, literal meaning rather than seeking additional justifications.

Nwanyanwu questioned the judges’ approach to the issue and asserted that the provision in question is automatic, requiring no further conditions or considerations.

He explained that the only way for the 27 Lawmakers to return to their original position would be to withdraw their cases and allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct by-elections.

According to Dan Nwanyanwu, “This provision is very clear. When a provision of the Act is clear, or law, or Constitution, you give it its literal meaning—straight meaning. Are you telling me our learned justices didn’t read this? What did they do? They now try to look for reasons: “There is no letter to show that they have moved to another party.” “Their name is not in the register of another party.” What the court has to do with this? Did you find out here? This provision is automatic without more. What will bring them back is to withdraw their cases for INEC to conduct a by-election. Some of them may come back, or they may decide to come back.”
