Afenifere chieftain, Dr. Akin Fapounda, has said the growing influence of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has challenged the belief that the Yoruba political bloc is entitled to retain the presidency for a second term, as he urged President Bola Tinubu not to seek re-election in 2027.
Speaking in an interview on SYMFONI TV, Fapounda said Nigeria must move beyond ethnic-based politics and concentrate on governance, national development and institutional reforms.
He stated that Obi’s emergence on the national political stage has weakened the assumption that the presidency should automatically remain in the hands of the Yoruba political bloc for another term.
Fapounda also advised President Tinubu to leave office honorably after one term in order to preserve his legacy and create an opportunity for national renewal and political restructuring focused on effective governance.
He said,
“It takes an Obi to knock out the entitlement of Yorubas to second term of presidency. Mr. President Tinubu, one term is enough. Leave honorably, leave with your prestige intact. Restructure Nigeria. October 1 is a good time. Give us a new structure, where we focus on governance.”…Read_More…
