Political analyst Dayo Akintobi has raised concerns over the reported interrogation of Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with the unfolding Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.
Speaking during an interview from 11:12 on Vanguard News TV on Tuesday, 21 July, 2026, Akintobi reacted to reports that Gbajabiamila was invited by the anti-corruption agency to explain what he knew about how the controversial PFIPC found its way into the 2026 budget. The analyst questioned the effectiveness of the interrogation, citing reports that it lasted only 30 minutes.
According to Akintobi, “They said they invited Femi Gbajabiamila and grilled him about what he knew about this whole thing. Guess how much the grilling took. 30 minutes. They went in at 3:00 and came out at 3:30.”
The PFIPC scandal has emerged as one of the most talked-about political controversies in Nigeria in recent months. The purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, also referred to in some reports as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, has been described as a fictitious government agency that allegedly operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for nearly two years.
At the centre of the controversy is Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who reportedly presented himself as the Director-General of the council despite questions over its legal status and existence.
