According to a report by Arise News on Monday, April 13, 2026, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns over the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria’s political process, alleging that the commission is showing bias in favour of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He made the remarks during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation, where he spoke on the growing tension within the opposition and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku claimed that recent actions by the electoral body reflect interference in the internal affairs of opposition parties, which he believes could affect fair political competition.
His comments come at a time when opposition leaders are increasing their level of coordination under the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
According to him, there are concerns that democratic processes are being influenced in ways that may restrict the independence of political parties.
He alleged that some decisions taken by the electoral commission appear to favour the ruling administration.
These claims were made as political activities begin to intensify across different parties, with stakeholders engaging in discussions on strategies for future elections.
He said, “I took the president to court 11 times and I won. There was never a time I was convicted of any corruption.” Read_More…
