According to a report by Punch on Thursday, April 23, 2026, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dan Ulasi, has expressed a personal view on former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, stating that Nigerians would feel more optimistic about the country if they were exposed to his private conversations and manner of reasoning.

Ulasi made the comments during a televised interview where he reflected on political relationships, party dynamics, and ongoing discussions around national leadership and future elections.

He made the remarks while speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, where he discussed both his political experiences and his interactions with Obi over the years.

According to him, Obi had visited his residence multiple times within the year 2026 alone, with the most recent visit occurring after Obi’s engagement at Coal City University in Enugu State.

Ulasi noted that these visits were part of a consistent pattern of interaction between them, which has continued over a long period.

He explained that his relationship with Obi is not a recent development, as it dates back several years to when he served as chairman of the National Republican Convention during the period Obi was contesting the governorship of Anambra State.

He stated that their early political interactions laid the foundation for continued communication over time, even as both men pursued different political paths in later years.

Despite this long-standing association, Ulasi did not indicate any formal political alignment between them.

Ulasi described Obi as someone whose private discussions reflect careful thinking about governance and national issues.

He suggested that hearing Obi speak in informal settings would give Nigerians a deeper understanding of his ideas and approach to leadership.

However, he maintained that such observations were personal in nature and did not translate into any official political agreement or partnership between them.

In the same interview, Ulasi also commented on internal matters within the Peoples Democratic Party, stating that he has concerns about the party’s current structure and leadership arrangements.

He specifically referenced the position of Nyesom Wike within the party, suggesting that internal contradictions could affect its ability to compete effectively in future elections.

He noted that such issues require clear explanations and resolution if the party is to maintain unity.

Ulasi explained that his concerns stem from the belief that political consistency is important for any party seeking national leadership.

He stated that he finds it difficult to reconcile certain internal dynamics within the PDP, especially when viewed alongside the party’s ambitions for future elections.

According to him, these contradictions are part of what he considers necessary discussions within the party structure.

He said, “So I don’t see my party as presently constituted challenging Tinubu with Wike as national leader. These are part of the contradictions, which if I’m not properly informed and explained to, I will leave the party. And I want to be quoted accurately.” Read_More…
