According to a video from 22:30 posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, dismissed claims that the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress are worried about Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the interview, Umahi rejected the narrative that the ruling party considers Obi a political threat. He argued that the opposition’s growing popularity on social media should not be mistaken for actual political strength, insisting that the APC remains confident in its performance and electoral prospects.
The minister said the Tinubu administration is concentrating on governance, particularly the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the country, rather than engaging in political distractions.
According to him, ongoing reforms and investments in roads and other critical sectors will ultimately speak for the government’s performance.
Responding directly to suggestions that the APC is uneasy about Obi’s rising profile, Umahi said, “Even me, I cannot be scared of Peter Obi, let alone Tinubu. What is displayed around Peter Obi is AI-driven politics.”
